Chapter 20

Regan POV~~~

After I heard the baroness’s warning, I went back to my dungeon. If a marquis was going to challenge the dungeon, I doubted he would bring some weak party along. I needed to finish my second boss and add a couple of floors to make sure it was interesting for him. Especially since people would just be walking past floor six and seven if they were smart.

I decided to go ahead and make my tenth floor and second real boss to block anyone trying to get to me. While my subcore should have let me survive in case the unthinkable happened, I didn’t know what would happen to all that I had built up and how much it would hurt. Just the thought of the self-surgery I’d done, and the pain it had caused, gave me pause.

I moved my vision down to the blank space under my current dungeon. I started to make my tenth-floor boss room. I accessed my environments and made an arctic wasteland a couple of kilometers wide and about a kilometer high. I made a large mountain to one side that had the door to the next floor at the top. I made a giant nest surrounding the door. I started to concentrate on what I wanted to create.

I decided on an eagle with a carbon-fiber alloy frame. The skin was made of super flexible material similar to rubber. It would resist most bladed weapons to a point, and blunt weapons would bounce, making this a decent mage challenge. Its inner body was composed of the mana-absorbing ice that Colossus was now made of, so that it could move as much as it wanted. I gave it claws capable of generating a thin laser beam that could cut through most materials I had encountered so far. Finally, I gave it the ability to fire a beam of pure ice energy that would freeze anything it hit. This was meant to be a semifinal layer of defense. Once my dungeon got deeper, I would make a weaker version. But with a potential high-level party about to dive into the dungeon, I didn’t want to take any chances.

That finished, I made some traps in various places in the floor so that people couldn’t lead the boss into an unfavorable position, mainly so that the enemies couldn’t gather several parties to challenge the boss together. I considered this boss a fifty-person raid, tops. The traps consisted of summoning platforms. If the number of combatants exceeded a certain amount, it would start to summon my more advanced automata, mainly platoons of soldier types from the fort. I’m talking a decent-size army would start moving it. They would move to defend the boss, so that people couldn’t take advantage of the situation.

That finished, I looked to the Ice Colossus, as I’d started calling him. I decided to add him as a “bonus.” If a party really pissed me off, I would have him mount the eagle, and he would join the fight.
